That's what I'm calling this crazy virus...Corona Mona. I'm not blaming a gender for this but Mona rhymes and Dana doesn't.
It's been a few weeks since I posted here. In that period, we've travelled a bit more, returned to North America and the residents of the planet have withdrawn into a self imposed exile, or at least most of us. Physical distancing is the order of the day, indefinitely. For many, it's a self imposed solitary confinement. This will not have a happy ending.
As of this date, all service industries and industries have shut down and physical isolation has taken hold around the world. A lot of people have died as of this writing but this will worsen. Our collective hibernation will become more important. The pundits say 15,000 will die in Canada when this is over. That doesn't sound like a lot but they will all suffer badly.
The details surrounding the virus and the way each country is dealing with it is well documented.
What's not well documented is how people have been working through this so far and how they will deal with it in the weeks/months to come. Also, and this is the most interesting part of this, what will the future look like?
Prediction #1 - this is the most dire prediction on my list. For those enjoying virtual get-togethers and cocktails, the calls will become fewer and eventually grim with worry and desperation. There will be an underling worry that you'll be asking for something...perhaps food, money, booze. The list of needs stemming from shortages will become longer as time goes on. When our kids or grand kids or people close to us start to suffer the fall-out from this new economy, we'll begin to turn off. If it goes on long enough, we'll even turn on each other.
