We changed houses in 2008. Cable TV did not move with us. The TV and the DVD player were on the truck but I just never got around to calling the evil monster called Rogers. They called me of course. They continue to call me. Even their evil twin Bell calls me, often. The two companies are in denial. They can't accept that I no longer want to watch their offerings. They'll not ever get over it.
I was listening to an interview with some British guy "on the radio" recently and the announcer was listing his recent accomplishments.. wrote books, produced TV shows, designed buildings and on and on. His first question to this accomplished man was, "where do you find the time?". His answer was, "I don't watch TV".
This struck a chord with me. I was told by a friend recently that they're agog over how hard I work. I looked at them with a puzzled glare wondering what the hell they were talking about. Then it hit me. Yes, I play a lot of music and sell a few houses and travel a bit and play hockey and go to yoga once in awhile and read a bit and go to movies and visit my book club every few weeks and on and on but in my little brain, I'm not busy. I have lots of time for all of these activities because I don't stare at a TV for hours every day.
I figure that even if my body dies when it was destined to die, I've lengthened my life by not watching TV. I think that deal is pretty good value.
