We all know how important it is to be aware and limit our energy consumption. All you have to do spend a day in a European city to know how "top of mind" it is there.
The one energy sucking device in most of our homes is the hot water tank. It keeps our water hot all the damn time! Even when we don't need it. Even when we're in Europe enjoying their energy saving devices.
Here's a suggestion. Get to know your tank. Walk down to your basement, open the door and google the "model" to see what it's all about. There's a good chance there's a vacation mode on it. DO NOT TURN TANK OFF! It's can be a bugger to turn back on.
Next time you leave the house for a period of time, turn it to vacation mode. Or, if your baths are too damn hot, turn the thermostat down to a reasonable level.
Now, pat yourself on the back for doing a good deed for the planet.
