When i first started blogging 8 years ago, it was a fairly new format for online communication. I didn't know much about what it would accomplish and I didn't really give it that much thought. I saw it simply as a forum through which I could vent and at the same time, have some fun writing a few lines every day.
I promoted it as best I could but Facebook and Twitter weren't a big deal in those days so I had to be creative. I talked about it alot when I was out socially. I put the link on my email signature and I encouraged my clients to check it out for current real estate information. I even used it as a marketing tool. For example, I listed a legal duplex and wanted to promote it's value as an investment. My plan was to write about it in my blog with all the details, CAP rate and all that, and then send a flyer around to the neighbours asking them to visit my blog if they wanted more information. I checked the stats on my blog site and learned that 15 people visited it the day the flyers were delivered. This was a successful operation.
I soon learned that I liked having an audience, even though it was small and erratic.
It continutes to be fun and the audience has remained loyal over the years. The question is, where do I take it in the next 8 years?
