If you think that the news reported by the media each day is factual and should be taken at face value, you must be a fool. I'm as sure of that as I am that the Globe & Mail lightly slapped Margaret Wente's little wrist for plagiarizing.
Over the past few years, I've become more disconnected and disengaged from my world, my country than ever before. My governments have been lying to me for their own gain. The newspapers, the ones I have been reading religiously every day for most of my life, have for the most part become void of content and critical analysis. TV is inane and unwatchable. My CBC, with the rare exception, has dumbed down and become, well, simple and/or sensationalistic.
I'm here to tell my readers that there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel. His name is Jesse Brown and his podcast is Canadaland. For the first time in years, I feel there is someone out there who is doing something about our national slide into indifference. I'm once again engaged...even hopeful, and it feels great.
So, my message is to Bob H. in Vancouver, Murray W. in Toronto, John H. in Peterborough, Karen L. in Toronto and the rest of you..... please cancel your subscription to all newspapers except the Toronto Star (the only newspaper investing heavily into investigative reporting), stop reading the online press that does not pay for their content (Huffington Post) and divert your hard earned funds to this podcast. Whatever you pay to read a newspaper, send it to Jesse.
Check out some of his interviews: Jan Wong on her dismissal from the Globe, Geritocracy and the great divide between the young and the old; Laura Robinson on her well researched Georgia Straight article on the former Vancouver Olympics CEO, John Furlong; Glenn Greenwald, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist talking about our loss of privacy and the consequences to name a few.
These shows make me feel like I'm in school again. And don't get me started on the biggest buffoon of all, yes even bigger than Don Cherry. I'm referring to the Oil Sands biggest fan, Rex Murhpy. Watch this video. This clown mocks environmentalists like Billy Graham mocks atheists!
