Many years ago, there was a resident mortgage broker from TD Bank who ran her operation from our office. She provided mortgage advice and products to many of the clients represented by the agents who worked there. She would offer bonus points as a finders fee for sending her clients. I cashed them in one time and my reward was a shitty barbecue and a not so shitty vacuum cleaner. I also received a tax slip for the value of these items.
I never felt particularly comfortable with this. It seemed like might be perceived as a conflict of interest so I stopped referring clients to her. I figured happy clients were worth more in the long run than shitty appliances.
Instead, I redirected my focus to finding and qualifying good service professionals who would provide exceptional service to me and my friends/clients. To this day, many of my clients, with my encouragement, use me as a resource when they're in the market for a mortgage broker, a lawyer, roofer, handyman and so on. This model is serviced by the web site www.circleoftrust.ca. I'm happy to say this site is visited often.
If you choose to use any of the service professionals listed there, please note that Karen and I do not receive a finders fee. Our reward is that they do what they say they will do and "do it at a fair price" and "on time". If you ever have an issue with any of these fine entrepreneurs, we encourage you to call us so we can help work it all out.
