Apparently, boomers are starting their own businesses in record numbers, at least according to Toronto lawyer and journalist, Sheryl Smolkin. Her article in today's Moneyville, a section in today's Toronto Star is quite enlightening. I'm not surprised to see it. It's been obvious to me that this has been happening for quite some time, inspired no doubt by two things these boomers share... unemployment and a shortage of money. Ah, the great motivators.
If you are 60+ and recently unemployed, your options are limited. You're certainly not going to be hired in today's economy and even if you get a job offer (this demographic excels at getting interviews), it will be performing chores well below your skill set and the money offered will be substantially less than what you are accustomed.
