I encounter a lot of small business people (of which I am one) often in my work day. Sometimes I meet and work with them in my role as a real estate Broker and sometimes in my role as Vice Chair at ACCESS Community Capital Fund. The one thing most have in common is their solitary nature. They love and nurture their business operation like no other. In that, they are very alone.
I've struggled with this over the years and attempted to counter this by inviting other Realtors in my home from time to time to discuss the business and how to make a success of it. I stopped hosting these meetings mostly because I ended up giving a lot more than I received.
So, I was thrilled to be invited to join the Cabbagetown Chapter of BNI, Business Networking International, a very well organized referral network. Yes, it's a referral network but the very pleasant residual of this group is the support we provide each other.
This is a very new Chapter. So far we are 16 in number. We have an accountant, a financial adviser, a lawyer, a caterer, a cleaner, a homeopath, a holistic doctor and on and on. Note, there is only ONE representative from each profession. That's the idea. Also note, there is only ONE Realtor, ME!
