It started with a cheap, but very old banjo in an odd shaped case. It ended with a very nice donation by a gentleman who saw the charm and value in said banjo.
The banjo community attracts fanatics... no, make that obsessive compulsive types. We like what we like and it happens to be the 5-string banjo. So, it came as no surprise to me that there would be some people hoping to win the silent auction for this fine piece of Americana.
Tony Racioppa, the handsome man in the photo, saw this fine instrument and supplied the winning bid. The other item that accompanied the banjo was a very old, second edition copy of the Pete Seeger banjo instructional book, the FIRST ever published.. Thanks Tony.
Thanks also to Judy Fink from Artscan Circle for doing such a terrific job of advertising this promotion.
And a very special thanks to Monica Gray, the owner of the banjo who offered it up for a great cause.
