According to her blog, "Ellen is a personal finance and consumer affairs columnist with the Toronto Star’s business section. Her columns appear Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday." She is to the local newspaper scene, what Erin Davis it to the media scene... that is, a "must read".
  • Erin Davis's Official Homepage
Erin always has a finger on the pulse of this vibrant city. Her blog is informative and fun. If you want to know what's happening or what's happened, don't bother listening to the news reports, go to this blog. My guess is this is one of the most popular sites in Toronto.
  • Vancouver Real Estate Blog
I've never met or even spoken to this fellow. He doesn't even work for RE/MAX. However, I like his blog. The tone of it is real and there's not much of that in the blogsphere.

The blog and blogger who inspired me to start my own!

    Quite a character

I learned something important yesterday.  It was a lesson from someone I recently met.  He's a retired carpenter from the Soo who organizes things... events... whatever.  He's one of these guys who get things done.

He's not a conventional kind of guy.  His pace is the pace of a "retired carpenter" so he makes me slow my metabolism and absorb his thoughts at his speed.  This is good.

He told me of many of the things he's done in life and to him, this probably isn't all that big a deal but to me, I was mightily impressed.

Little richard He returned to school twice in his life, once to get a degree at a university and later to get a teacher's certificate.  He had an idea to build up a teaching business in carpentry and so he walked into the office of the local lumber mogul and made his pitch.   He was successful.  He wanted to become a building inspector for the city of Sault Ste. Marie and he was successful.  He wanted to go to the Arctic to work so he did.  He wanted to speak with Little Richard, the rock and roll legend and he got on the phone and made it happen.  He wanted to meet and promote Johnny Cash Jr. so he made it happen.

He gets an idea and goes for it.  He isn't afraid of rejection, failure or embarrassment.

Isn't it amazing what you can achieve when you try?  Isn't it amazing what someone might have to offer when you simply ask?

    His name is Don Marks.
