There's much about writing a blog that surprises. Besides the terrific comments and emails I receive, this site often pops up on search engines and that too inspires an email or phone call that would otherwise not happen.
I've heard from former banjoists that I had lost touch with. Mary Hynes from the CBC emailed me after I had written about her show. A long lost friend from British Columbia called a couple of years ago and he found me when my blog popped up.
Yesterday, I had another surprise.
I wrote a few days ago about the death of my uncle Beverly Hambly, my mother's brother. That's a side of the family I know little about. Well, that's about to change.
Tom Kearney from Toronto wrote
"I am a descendant of William Hambly and Ann Sturtridge, through their daughter, Anna. I believe your line descends through their son, William Sturtridge Hambly. Suprisingly, I do have your name and your siblings in my genealogy. My late aunt was in contact with Lillian Edevine Hambly who gave her the Hambly genealogy. Lillian passed away in 2001."
Is this cool or what? The best part is, I have no idea who he's writing about. I've never heard of any of these people.
He directed me to Crystal Hambly's site and lo and behold, there were even more people I had never heard of.
